Master Inventory Training Matrix
During my internship with City of Calgary Recreation and Social Programs, I worked on a digital content organization project focused on improving the accessibility and clarity of the department’s training courses within the Learning Management System (LMS).
The Design Process
The core problem was that the existing courses in their database were outdated, disorganized, and unclear, making it difficult for staff to find relevant and required training.
This project had these main steps:
-
Audit and Inventory: I gathered internal and external course data from multiple sources, combining them into a comprehensive Excel master list
-
Deactivation Process: I met with training coordinators to identify and flag outdated or unused courses, then worked with HR to deactivate them in the LMS
-
Content Redesign: I collaborated with subject matter experts to rewrite and standardize course descriptions using a custom HTML template to ensure clear formatting and consistency in the LMS
-
Categorization and Labeling: I categorized courses by subject area, required staff positions, and whether completion was mandatory
After removing and updating the outdated content, the final result was a cohesive, simple, easy-to-use training catalog that made it easier for staff to find courses.

This is not the actual Master Training Matrix I worked on during the internship. It is a template of what it looks like.
