Crochet Lesson Plan
For this project, I designed a 1-2 hour beginner crochet lesson intended to be taught by a different teacher. The goal was to create a complete instructional package that clearly communicated learning objectives, teaching strategies, and assessment methods for a smooth, engaging experience.
A Need for Instruction
For this project, I designed a 1-2 hour beginner crochet lesson intended to be taught by a different teacher. The goal was to create a complete instructional package that clearly communicated learning objectives, teaching strategies, and assessment methods for a smooth, engaging experience.
I started by creating a learner profile and persona based on student needs, preferences, and barriers. From there, I identified the following learning outcomes:
-
Understand the basic tools and materials used in crochet
-
Correctly hold and manipulate a crochet hook and yarn
-
Replicate basic crochet stitches (e.g., chain, single crochet)
-
Follow a beginner-friendly instruction manual independently
My lesson plan incorporated both Information Processing Theory and Social Learning Theory to support retention and skill development through modeling, repetition, and guided practice. Bloom’s Taxonomy was also used to align objectives with cognitive skill levels.
The last part of this package was a way to evaluate learning. I proposed a hands-on assessment, where students would complete a small crochet piece by the end of the class after completing the general objectives. Additionally, teachers would distribute a follow-up email survey to gather feedback and reflect on lesson effectiveness.
This project demonstrates my ability to design a learner-centered, theory based instructional experience for facilitators to easily use.
